Stink Bug Damage

June 12th, 2012

Check out this stink bug damage, it’s caused by stink bugs piercing  the outer skin. You are left with damaged spot. Spray with Eight early in the morning or early in the evening.

The tomato below is an example of the deep ovate growing habits in heirloom tomatoes. The tomato in the picture is German Bragger.

What is the name of the spray we need for this? Are the tomatoes okay to eat when they are all speckled like that because it looks like a disease (which makes me hesitant to eat them!) Also, with the spray to get rid of the bugs, is there a certain amount of time before you should pick/eat the fruit? Thanks!

Permethrin is one of the best stink bug controls available.
Nice thing is it is environmentally friendly with little toxicity and only one day waiting till harvest on tomatoes.
We have this available under the product name Eight. Works well on a large number of other insects as well.
The damaged fruit will be full of hard callous tissue and uneven in ripening. They are still edible but usually not desirable. Parts of the tomato might, however, be salvageable.
