Put out Dimension now to prevent any weed seeds from germinating in your lawn and flower beds. Existing weeds will need to be taken care of with a separate product. Atrazine or Weed Free Zone are the go to chemicals these days. Both will need a spreader sticker to be the most effective. Make sure to hit those ants where it hurts, apply Over and Out to knock out both the young and existing mounds.
Prune roses and treat them with fertilizer to promote growth. Apply All Seasons Oil Spray to kill over wintering insects. If you’re worried about any dormant diseases afoot, use Lime Sulfur spray.
It’s not just roses that need a good pruning, trim shade trees now for best results later in the season. Fertilize them with with a time released fertilizer like Growers Special or Ross Fertilizer Stakes.
Spray fruit trees with All Seasons Oil Spray now before they bloom to kill off over-wintering insects.
Apply Lime for Pink Hydrangeas or Sulfur for blue blooms now.
Plant a few tomatoes now. Usually the earlier the better for heirloom varieties like German Johnson or Brandywine because of the absence of pests and diseases.
We now have Onions, Asparagus (New Jersey King all male variety), Horse Radish, Potatoes (Red Lasoda, White Kennibeck, and Yukon Gold), and much more in stock.
A new cucumber variety for this year, the Sweet Success Cucumber is an English type cucumber that is long, sweet, dark green, and seedless. This is the cucumber made popular on cooking shows and at Whole Foods and Farm Fresh. Seeds are available at the store or through our online store and plants will be available in March for purchase in store. Takes only 54 days until harvest.

For years we have been plagued by leaf miners of all sorts and I’m sure this year won’t be any different. Using dormant oil to snuff out the leaf miners or spraying with an organic insecticide like Spinosid haven’t been the most effective solutions because of the timing. Bayer recently came out with a new product called “Bayer Advanced Fruit, Citrus, and Vegetable Insect Control.” Check out this great article from Texas A&M on using Imidacloprid in vegetable gardens and fruit trees. HERE Be sure to apply after the flowers have fallen.
